Yep Kanum Celebration
Fire Marshall Requirements
Updated: January 1, 2026
The following Fire Marshal requirements apply to vendors participating in the Yep Kanum Celebration. Please review these requirements carefully before arriving at the event.

Tent and Stall Spacing
No more than 700 square feet of tents or stalls may be grouped together without 12 feet of separation, per the International Fire Code.

Cooking in Tents or Stalls
No cooking is allowed in tents or stalls with sidewalls unless there is 20 feet of separation from other tents or stalls.
This requirement may be waived, except when deep fat frying will occur, if all other requirements are met.
Fire Extinguishers
Portable fire extinguishers are required in all tents or stalls with heating or cooking appliances.

For all cooking operations, vendors must have a minimum 2A:10BC rated fire extinguisher that is easily accessible.
Fire extinguishers must be:
-
Visible and not blocked from view.
-
Easily accessible.
-
Inspected annually with a current inspection tag.
Tent and Stall Anchoring
All tents and stalls must be properly anchored.

Grease Cooking, Oil Cooking, and Sparks
No grease cooking, oil cooking, or sparks are allowed within 20 feet of a tent or stall.

When grease or oil cooking is conducted, a 20-foot separation from other tents and stalls must be maintained. This required separation includes both temporary and permanent structures.

Vendors may use two combined tents or stalls if needed. When combined, the full structure must still maintain a 20-foot separation from other structures. One tent or stall must be used for cooking and food preparation, and the other must be used for customer service only.
Portable Generators
A portable fire extinguisher rated 2A:20BC must be provided no more than 50 feet from any portable generator.

Fire Inspection Contact
A point of contact must be provided for fire inspection.
