Our Story

For more than a century, Colville’s community spirit has been celebrated every summer at Yep Kanum Park. The very first Yep Kanum festival was held in 1914, sponsored by the Colville Chamber of Commerce. “Yep Kanum” — a phrase from the language of the Colville Confederated Tribes meaning “harvest time, good powwow, or good time” — brought neighbors together for three days of parades, an “Indian village,” and a grand ball at the Masonic Temple.

Over the decades, this harvest-time celebration evolved into Rendezvous Days — a festival of craft markets, local baseball tournaments, live music, classic cars, and family fun. That name evoked the historic “rendezvous” of fur-trade Britain and Native American groups at Kettle Falls, where up to 14 tribes once gathered each summer to fish, trade, and socialize. In Colville, that spirit of meeting and merriment thrived for generations, until the event quietly slipped away in 2020 amid the pandemic and a shortage of volunteers.

In October 2024, fueled by a love for our town and a desire to revive its most-cherished tradition, a dedicated group of local volunteers stepped forward. They secured nonprofit status, chose to honor our beloved park by renaming the festival “Yep Kanum Celebration,” and began rebuilding the event from the ground up. Today, the celebration looks forward to restoring those early-day joys — while adding fresh energy, new activities, and a renewed focus on community connection.

Yep Kanum Park itself remains the heart of our story. Spanning 20 wooded acres of Ponderosa pine and Douglas fir, it’s home to the city pool, tennis courts, picnic shelters, and the Rotary Pavilion Stage where you’ll hear live music once again. We invite you to step into this tradition — to reclaim the spirit of harvest-time “good powwow,” make lasting memories, and carry Colville’s heritage into its next chapter.

Nikole Morrison

Board Member, Vice President | 1 year

Nikole Morrison, Vice President of the Yep Kanum Celebration Board, brings decades of local leadership to the event—she works at Stevens County Title & Escrow, co-owned Brown Boyz with her husband, spent fifteen years at KeyBank, and volunteers with the Hope Street Board and Colville Together. A festival enthusiast raised in Leavenworth—the home of celebrations—she moved to Colville in 1999, where she and her husband raised their family, embraced community events and sports, and experienced the town’s generosity firsthand. When she felt called to revive a signature festival in their park, Nikole drew on her fondest Rendezvous Days memories—running a craft booth, serving Brown Boyz specialties, and cheering on her boys in the baseball tournament—to launch Yep Kanum. To her, the Celebration embodies true community spirit, and when she isn’t planning events, you’ll find her making new memories with her grown children and grandchildren.

Tarrel believes that “music can heal the soul,” and he’s honored to bring that spirit to Yep Kanum.
